Royalties for music fans, metaverse in esports, Mr. Bean’s NFTs: Web3 news, May 12

While crypto traders might be preoccupied with the market’s recent volatility, the NFT space keeps growing and welcoming more artists and partnerships.

Chainsmokers becomes the first music band to share royalties with fans through NFTs 

The music duo The Chainsmokers is releasing their new music album “So Far, So Good” on Friday, May 13, which will be followed by a 5,000 NFTs drop on May 17.

The beauty of the NFTs, which will be carried out through a platform called Royal, is that they will not only have perks like in-person meetings or access to a special Discord community, but it’ll also give their holders a share of the duo’s royalties.

The duo said they identified the most active fans through data from Discord activity, music streams and concert sales.

Global Esports Federation forms Metaverse Council

A non-profit organization focused on the esports industry’s development, the Global Esports Federation, has launched a metaverse council.

The GEF Metaverse Council will concentrate on finding and exploring the metaverse opportunities for the gaming industry.

“Three words come to mind whenever metaverse is mentioned; Play, Community and Inclusion. These words are equally relevant to esports. I’m looking forward to working with these movers and shakers in the Web3, esports and social media space to shape greater connectivity and opportunities for a better, bigger, infinitely playable #worldconnected,” said a senior advisor at the GEF, Melvin Kuek.

Mr. Bean becomes Ethereum NFT

Mr. Bean’s official Twitter account has announced it’s releasing a collection of NFTs that’s going to be built on Ethereum in partnership with FOMO Labs and Banijay.

The collection will consist of 3,333 Mr. Bean collectibles and will also feature other cartoon characters like a teddy bear, Teddy, Scrapper the cat, Mrs. Wicket and others. The release date has not yet been specified.
